It's been two months since our year in South America came to a close. Check out our South America blog here:
We've spent a good deal of that time apart from one another, enjoying friends and family, reflecting on what this trip has meant to us and how we've changed. It's also been a nice opportunity to just slow things down, without the pressures of finding a place to stay every few days, haggling down always inflated tourist prices, and living out of a backpack. Very apparent has been the ease of falling back into old habits and the difficulties of living an active lifestyle, especially in the winter. We've also experienced the wonderful novelty of everyone in our lives being eager and willing to make time for us, which has been very special and a lot of fun with parties and get-togethers almost every weekend. We both relished in some time for individual pursuits as well, Abby working on various art projects and learning a bit of Indonesian and Mike taking up rock climbing and learning a bit of Mandarin Chinese. It has been a blast, but the time has come to knock the dust off our backpacks and hiking boots and begin the next leg of this wonderful journey. After scouring flight prices and debating various regions of the world, we've booked a one way flight to Jakarta, Indonesia. In typical Mike and Abby fashion, we'll be arriving without any plans or reservations of any kind, ready to embrace whichever direction the winds take us. Please follow along and help us share this adventure. Carpe Diem!
